Easy Country Recipes passed on through the generations.

Try these Easy Country Recipes to provide your family with healthy wholesome meals.

May you enjoy as you serve these tried and tested recipes to your friends over a “cuppa” or a glass of wine.

Our grandparents often lived in isolation with long distances, rough unsealed tracks and with no refrigeration. This helped shape their eating habits. They had to cook meals with what ingredients they had on hand, from the fresh meat and vegetables grown on their properties. Hence meals were plain and simple though full of flavour. Through much experience, substitutions and variations our grandparents created many of these recipes which are now handed down through the generations.

Isolation is not such a big problem today, however, country men and women’s lifestyle often means hard physical work and mealtime still plays an important part of their lives. As any one who has visited a country home will know on arrival scrumptious cakes, scones or pancakes served with a cuppa are to be had. If you arrive around lunch or dinner a wholesome, good home cooked meal is served.

Different cultures have brought us many new and tasty recipes and our era’s lifestyle has changed how we eat today, so recipes have been added to Easy country recipes to cater for these changes. .

Life has not always offered electricity, refrigerators, frozen or takeaway foods or microwave ovens. So as we glance through these recipes may we all appreciate how much more difficult it must have been for the older generations to put a meal on the table.

We hope you never lose the habit of having time ‘for a chat over a cuppa with your friends’.
